Carolin Strothe

food photographer, photo designer and art director with heart and soul

Carolin Strothe is a freelance Food photographer, Photo designer, (Food-)Stylist, Art director and Cookbook author based in the trade fair and EXPO city Hannover in Northern Germany.

She was born in 1978 in the half-timbered town of Celle in Northern Germany. In 1998, after her final secondary-school examinations in Celle she started an apprenticeship as a photographer. She focused on advertising, industry, in- and outside architecture and people in Celle and Hannover.

Carolin began her studies in Communication Design in 2002, focusing on Visual Communication at the University of Applied Sciences & Arts of Hannover.

Before graduating with diploma (as "Diplom-Designerin") in 2007, she founded her own creative office "herzblut Designagentur" in 2004 freelancing as Graphic designer and Art director. Meanwhile, Carolin worked for different design and advertising agencies (Scholz & Friends, diffferent, fischerAppelt). She also has realised many different food photography, editorial and corporate design projects. She founded her creative office with her husband Sebastian Keitel, a Creative Planner and Concept developer, who is also her business partner. They often develop and realise teamwork projects.

In her free time Carolin loves vintage fashion, swing music (1930–1950), swing dancing (Lindy Hop, Balboa and Charleston) and fleamarket visits.

To food, with love

Ever since Carolin was a little girl she has loved everything concerning food. As she grew up in two gardens at the same time (her parents’ and her grandparents’ gardens) –, Carolin learned very early, when and how fruits and vegetables grow and what lovely delicacies you can make of them in the kitchen. One of her favourite things to do was picking berries and apples in the garden and hunting for nature’s treasures. This is how Carolin's passion for baking and cooking was born. And this passion still grows day by day. Her child's home is the reason why Carolin prefers to cook and bake with local, seasonal and organic ingredients as natural as possible. Plus Carolin loves to interprete classic recipes by her 100-year-old Grandmother "Ami" with a new twist.

Being absolutely in love with food and everything that has to do with it, Carolin has found a perfect way to combine all her passions into one: food, photography and (editorial) design. In most of her food projects she is concept and recipe developer, chef, stylist and photographer, all rolled into one.
